Description

Our client, a respected firm in Ottawa, is seeking a Technology Lawyer with 8+ years of experience to join its growing technology, privacy, and commercial law practice. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer with strong experience in technology law, software and SaaS agreements, licensing, data and privacy matters, cybersecurity-adjacent advisory work, intellectual property commercialization, outsourcing, cloud services, and general commercial technology transactions.

The successful candidate will advise a broad range of technology companies, software providers, growth-stage businesses, institutional clients, and commercial organizations on transactional, operational, and strategic legal matters. This role is well suited to a lawyer who is confident managing sophisticated files, maintaining strong client relationships, and delivering practical, business-focused legal advice in a fast-paced private practice environment.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on a broad range of technology law matters, including software licensing, SaaS agreements, cloud services, data use, privacy, and commercial technology transactions
  • Draft, review, and negotiate technology agreements, including master services agreements, licensing agreements, reseller agreements, implementation agreements, data processing terms, and outsourcing contracts
  • Provide strategic legal advice on privacy, cybersecurity-adjacent issues, IP commercialization, data governance, and regulatory risk
  • Support clients with technology procurement, vendor agreements, platform agreements, and digital business operations
  • Manage files from opening through closing, including timelines, client communication, legal drafting, negotiation strategy, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with business teams, founders, executives, and advisors on technology-driven commercial matters
Qualifications
  • Called to the Bar in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum 8 years of experience practicing in technology law, commercial law, privacy law, or related business law matters
  • Strong drafting and negotiation experience with technology agreements, licensing documents, and commercial contracts
  • Experience advising on software, SaaS, data privacy, cybersecurity-adjacent matters, outsourcing, and technology transactions
  • Excellent communication, judgment, and client management skills

Experience

8+ years of relevant experience in technology law, including experience with software agreements, SaaS, licensing, privacy, cybersecurity-adjacent advisory work, and commercial technology transactions.

Education

J.D. or LL.B.
Called to the Bar in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
