Our client, a respected firm in Calgary, is seeking a Private Lending Lawyer with 5+ years of experience to join its growing banking, finance, and commercial lending practice. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer with strong experience in private lending transactions, secured lending, commercial financing, real estate-secured lending, borrower and lender-side transactions, enforcement strategy, and general lending advisory work.
The successful candidate will advise a broad range of private lenders, borrowers, investors, financial stakeholders, developers, and commercial clients on transactional, operational, and strategic legal matters related to lending and secured finance. This role is well suited to a lawyer who is confident managing sophisticated files, maintaining strong client relationships, and delivering practical, business-focused legal advice in a fast-paced private practice environment.
- Advise clients on a broad range of private lending and financing matters, including secured lending, commercial mortgages, real estate-secured transactions, loan structuring, and lending risk management
- Draft, review, and negotiate loan agreements, commitment letters, security documents, guarantees, mortgage documentation, intercreditor agreements, and related financing materials
- Provide strategic legal advice on lender-side and borrower-side transactions, priority issues, enforcement rights, default scenarios, and recovery strategy
- Support clients with due diligence, collateral review, registration requirements, financing closings, and ongoing lending-related legal needs
- Manage files from opening through closing, including timelines, client communication, legal drafting, negotiation strategy, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with lenders, borrowers, brokers, developers, financial professionals, and other legal advisors on complex private lending matters
- Called to the Bar in Alberta and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
- Minimum 5 years of experience practicing in banking and finance law, secured lending, real estate lending, commercial law, or related business law matters
- Strong drafting and negotiation experience with loan agreements, security documentation, financing documents, and lending-related commercial contracts
- Experience advising on private lending transactions, commercial mortgages, secured finance, enforcement strategy, and financing closings
- Excellent communication, judgment, and client management skills
