Our client, a respected firm in Edmonton, is seeking an Energy Lawyer with 8+ years of experience to join its established energy, natural resources, and commercial transactions practice. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer with strong experience in energy law, oil and gas transactions, project development, commercial agreements, acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, regulatory-adjacent matters, and general business advisory work.
The successful candidate will advise a broad range of energy companies, developers, operators, investors, service providers, and commercial clients on transactional, operational, and strategic legal matters. This role is well suited to a lawyer who is confident managing sophisticated files, maintaining strong client relationships, and delivering practical, business-focused legal advice in a fast-paced private practice environment.
- Advise clients on a broad range of energy law matters, including oil and gas transactions, project development, commercial contracts, and operational legal issues
- Draft, review, and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, joint venture agreements, development agreements, service contracts, transportation agreements, and other energy-related documents
- Lead and support energy acquisitions, divestitures, financings, and strategic commercial transactions
- Provide strategic legal advice on commercial risk, regulatory-adjacent considerations, project structuring, and ongoing business operations
- Manage files from opening through closing, including due diligence, timelines, client communication, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and outside advisors on energy, transactional, and commercial law matters
- Called to the Bar in Alberta and in good standing with the applicable law society
- Minimum 8 years of experience practicing in energy law, oil and gas law, or related commercial transactions
- Strong drafting and negotiation experience with energy agreements, transactional documents, and project-related contracts
- Experience handling acquisitions, divestitures, commercial contracts, and business advisory matters in the energy sector
- Excellent communication, judgment, and client management skills
