
Our client, a respected firm in Calgary, is seeking an Energy Lawyer with 8+ years of experience to join its growing energy and commercial law practice. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer with strong experience in energy law, oil and gas transactions, regulatory matters, project development, midstream and upstream agreements, energy-related commercial contracts, and general industry advisory work.
The successful candidate will advise a broad range of energy companies, producers, developers, operators, investors, and commercial clients on transactional, operational, and strategic legal matters across the energy sector. This role is well suited to a lawyer who is confident managing sophisticated files, maintaining strong client relationships, and delivering practical, business-focused legal advice in a fast-paced private practice environment.
- Advise clients on a broad range of energy law matters, including oil and gas transactions, regulatory issues, project development, commercial agreements, and industry-specific operational matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate energy-related agreements, including purchase and sale agreements, joint operating agreements, farm-in and farm-out agreements, processing agreements, transportation agreements, and other commercial contracts
- Provide strategic legal advice on acquisitions and dispositions, title and due diligence matters, regulatory compliance, project structuring, and commercial risk management
- Support clients with upstream, midstream, and general energy-sector legal needs, including operational and transactional issues
- Manage files from opening through closing, including timelines, client communication, legal drafting, negotiation strategy, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with executives, land teams, business stakeholders, technical professionals, and other legal advisors on complex energy matters
- Called to the Bar in Alberta and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
- Minimum 8 years of experience practicing in energy law, oil and gas law, commercial law, or related business law matters
- Strong drafting and negotiation experience with energy agreements, transactional documents, and commercial contracts
- Experience advising on oil and gas transactions, project development, regulatory matters, due diligence, and energy-sector commercial issues
- Excellent communication, judgment, and client management skills
