Description

Our client, a respected firm in Mississauga, is seeking a Construction Lawyer with 5+ years of experience to join its growing construction and commercial litigation practice. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer with strong experience in construction law, including contract drafting and negotiation, lien matters, delay and deficiency disputes, procurement issues, project advisory work, builder and developer disputes, and construction-related litigation.

The successful candidate will advise a broad range of contractors, subcontractors, developers, owners, consultants, and commercial clients on transactional, operational, and strategic legal matters arising from construction projects and related disputes. This role is well suited to a lawyer who is confident managing sophisticated files, maintaining strong client relationships, and delivering practical, business-focused legal advice in a fast-paced private practice environment.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on a broad range of construction law matters, including contract disputes, lien claims, project delays, deficiencies, procurement issues, and construction risk management
  • Draft, review, and negotiate construction-related agreements, including CCDC contracts, subcontract agreements, consultant agreements, procurement documents, and settlement documentation
  • Provide strategic legal advice on construction liens, trust claims, delay claims, tendering issues, project disputes, and construction-related commercial litigation
  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, adjudications, arbitrations, and court proceedings arising from construction disputes
  • Support clients with project structuring, contract administration issues, dispute avoidance strategies, and ongoing construction-related legal needs
  • Manage files from opening through closing, including timelines, client communication, legal drafting, negotiation strategy, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with developers, builders, contractors, consultants, and other legal professionals on complex construction matters
Qualifications
  • Called to the Bar in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum 5 years of experience practicing in construction law, commercial litigation, or related dispute resolution and advisory matters
  • Strong drafting and negotiation experience with construction agreements, dispute documentation, court materials, and settlement documentation
  • Experience advising on construction liens, contract disputes, procurement matters, delay claims, deficiencies, and construction-related litigation
  • Excellent communication, judgment, and client management skills

Experience

5+ years of relevant experience in construction law, including experience with construction contracts, lien matters, procurement issues, delay and deficiency disputes, and construction-related litigation.

Education

J.D. or LL.B.
Called to the Bar in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
