Description

Our client, a well-regarded firm in Ottawa, is seeking a Commercial Litigation Lawyer with 7+ years of experience to join its growing litigation and dispute resolution practice. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer with strong experience in commercial litigation, contract disputes, shareholder disputes, construction disputes, employment-related litigation, injunctions, and complex civil matters.

The successful candidate will work on a broad range of commercial and civil litigation files, advising businesses, institutions, and private clients through all stages of the litigation process. This role is best suited to a lawyer who is confident managing files independently, developing litigation strategy, handling client communication, and appearing before courts and tribunals in a professional and effective manner.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a broad range of commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, shareholder disputes, construction disputes, debt recovery, and other complex civil disputes
  • Draft and argue pleadings, motions, affidavits, factums, mediation briefs, and settlement materials
  • Advise clients on litigation strategy, risk assessment, dispute resolution options, and practical legal outcomes
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, mediations, arbitrations, discoveries, and settlement negotiations
  • Conduct legal research and prepare clear, strategic written and oral advocacy materials
  • Maintain carriage of files from intake through resolution, including deadlines, client communication, reporting, and coordination with experts or external parties
Qualifications
  • Called to the Bar in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum 7 years of experience practicing in commercial litigation and dispute resolution
  • Strong advocacy, drafting, and file management skills across a broad range of civil and commercial disputes
  • Experience with motions, discoveries, mediations, hearings, and negotiated resolutions
  • Excellent communication, judgment, and client management skills in a private practice environment
