Our client, a respected firm in Ottawa, is seeking an IP Lawyer with 8+ years of experience to join its growing intellectual property and commercial law practice. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer with strong experience in intellectual property law, including trademarks, copyrights, licensing, brand protection, commercialization, portfolio management, IP strategy, and IP-related commercial transactions.
The successful candidate will advise a broad range of businesses, innovators, entrepreneurs, technology companies, creators, and institutional clients on transactional, operational, and strategic intellectual property matters. This role is well suited to a lawyer who is confident managing sophisticated files, maintaining strong client relationships, and delivering practical, business-focused legal advice in a fast-paced private practice environment.
- Advise clients on a broad range of intellectual property matters, including trademarks, copyrights, licensing, commercialization, portfolio strategy, and brand protection
- Draft, review, and negotiate intellectual property agreements, including licensing agreements, assignment agreements, confidentiality agreements, coexistence agreements, and IP-related commercial contracts
- Provide strategic legal advice on intellectual property protection, enforcement strategy, portfolio management, due diligence, and commercialization opportunities
- Support clients with trademark prosecution strategy, brand development, marketing-related legal issues, and the protection of proprietary assets
- Manage files from opening through closing, including timelines, client communication, legal drafting, negotiation strategy, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with founders, executives, in-house teams, advisors, and other legal professionals on IP-driven business matters
- Called to the Bar in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Minimum 8 years of experience practicing in intellectual property law, commercial law, or related business law matters
- Strong drafting and negotiation experience with licensing agreements, assignment documents, IP-related agreements, and commercial contracts
- Experience advising on trademarks, copyrights, commercialization, brand protection, portfolio strategy, and IP-related transactions
- Excellent communication, judgment, and client management skills
