Description

Our client, a respected firm in Ottawa, is seeking an Employment Lawyer with 6+ years of experience to join its growing employment and labour law practice. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer with strong experience in employment law, workplace investigations, wrongful dismissal matters, employment agreements, human rights issues, labour and workplace policies, and employer-side advisory work.

The successful candidate will advise a broad range of employers, organizations, and business clients on day-to-day workplace issues, risk management, employment disputes, and strategic employment matters. This role is well suited to a lawyer who is confident managing files independently, delivering practical legal advice, and supporting clients in a professional, responsive, and solutions-focused manner.

The successful candidate will work on a broad range of commercial and civil litigation files, advising businesses, institutions, and private clients through all stages of the litigation process. This role is best suited to a lawyer who is confident managing files independently, developing litigation strategy, handling client communication, and appearing before courts and tribunals in a professional and effective manner.

Responsibilities
  • Advise employers on a broad range of employment law matters, including terminations, workplace investigations, human rights issues, employment standards, and workplace policies
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, executive contracts, workplace policies, termination packages, and related employment documents
  • Represent clients in wrongful dismissal claims, workplace disputes, mediations, hearings, and employment-related litigation
  • Provide strategic legal advice on labour and employment risk management, employee relations, and compliance issues
  • Support employers with workplace investigations, accommodation matters, and performance management issues
  • Manage files from intake through resolution, including deadlines, client communication, legal research, and coordination with internal or external stakeholders
Qualifications
  • Called to the Bar in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum 6 years of experience practicing in employment law and related workplace matters
  • Strong drafting and advisory experience with employment agreements, workplace policies, and termination-related matters
  • Experience handling employment disputes, wrongful dismissal matters, investigations, and employer-side advisory work
  • Excellent communication, client service, and file management skills
